Solutions
One of smart growth's
many design plans
The most logical solution to the problem of urban sprawl is smart growth. Smart growth uses simple strategies planned during development to build close-knit, flourishing neighborhoods. Several incentives that contribute to smart growth include a sense of place, which allows businesses to be a part of communities; a mixture of ways to use land, which help to diversify the suburbs and attract more people; and many different methods of transportation, including trains and buses, which are more efficient than cars (as well as being time- and cost-effective).
If the US government took action and partnered with smart growth as part of a nation-wide campaign for better-quality living, they could collaborate and write a code that all cities, suburbs, and towns could use as a model to improve their efficiency. This code would be based on the main principles of smart growth, but the government would not have the right to force cities to change their ways, especially by charging them additional fees, if they did not meet all the code's requirements.
Smart growth across America will take some time, and everyone will have to be patient as areas that were once blanketed in urban sprawl gradually experience a metamorphosis that will completely redefine the landscape of Suburbia.
